The idea of solo travel had always terrified me. What if something goes wrong? What if I get lonely? But standing at Amber Fort at sunrise, watching the golden light pour over the ancient walls while camels passed below β I felt something I hadn't felt in years: pure, unfiltered joy.
Day 1β3: Jaipur β The Pink City
Jaipur welcomes you like a warm embrace. The City Palace, the bazaars of Johari Bazaar selling silver jewellery, the smell of dal baati churma wafting from street stalls β every moment felt like a discovery. I stayed at a heritage haveli in the old city for just βΉ800 a night and woke up to peacocks calling.
Day 4β6: Jodhpur β The Blue City
Mehrangarh Fort is one of those places that stops you cold. It rises sheer from a rocky cliff, and the blue-painted houses of the old city spread below like a dream. I spent an afternoon just sitting at a rooftop cafΓ©, sketching and eating mawa kachori.
Day 7β10: Jaisalmer β The Desert
The Thar Desert at night is the darkest sky I have ever seen. We camped under the stars at Sam Sand Dunes β no phone signal, no noise, just the Milky Way blazing overhead. I cried. I didn't know why. I think it was relief.
What Solo Travel Taught Me
- You are capable of more than you think
- Strangers are mostly kind
- Getting lost is how you find the best things
- Silence is not emptiness β it's possibility
If you are waiting for the "right time" to travel solo β this is it. Book the ticket. Pack the bag. Go.
